The important point we have to keep in mind that even though ethnographic studies are classified in qualitative studies, these are not just depths interviews or observation. The basic difference is in qualitative depths we have common guidelines to discuss with all respondents, but in ethnography we should prepare guidelines for each respondent after observing them then do the interview.
However the recruitment procedure is relevant to know which socio economic or geographic sector the respondent represents. For this the recruiter should have proper spread of data base based on Income, socio-economic class and geography. In my experience research designer will do this exercise and instruct field people to select respondent from particular SEC, income and region. Even after this researcher can cross check the percentage of screen in (ie incidence) with his calculation made at the start.
In fact collection of qualitative information about particular respondent is moderator's job, of course recruiter can assist. However recruiter should concentrate on recruiting procedures adopted for selecting the respondent to improve the quality of project output
