  • China, the world's biggest generator of greenhouse gases, estimated it may spend 2.37 trillion yuan ($373 billion) on projects for conserving energy and reducing emissions in the five years through 2015, spurring a surge in shares of environmental protection companies.
  • Twenty-twelve was supposed to be a watershed year for China to roll out energy pricing reforms but policy changes have moved at a glacial pace, continuing to negatively impact state oil companies' balance sheets in the first half.

  • China infrastructure spending 2012 is set to go up as it approves 25 urban rail projects across the nation.
  • China launches infrastructure projects in disputed islands.
 
 Lifestyle and Luxury 
 
  • The average Chinese tourist spent 203.04 pounds ($318.57) per purchase, 10 percent higher than tourists from the United Arab Emirates, who ranked second according to a People's Daily report.
