  • Sri Lanka's first ever pharmaceutical manufacturing plant launched.
  Telecom  
  • Use of mobile phones has grown rapidly among the poor in Sri Lanka, becoming almost an indispensable business tool among small entrepreneurs and farmers, according to a new study.
  • Sri Lanka had 18,417 million mobile subscribers at the end of September 2011, with a net addition of 241,000, down from 438,000 in June 2011.
  • Sri Lanka has seen a steep drop in the use mail in 2011, while telecom services continued to expand, increasing losses of a state-run postal service, official data showed.

  • Tourist arrivals increased by 21.1 percent in March compared to the same period last year. The number of tourist arrived in March amounted to 91,102 while it was 75,130 in March last year.
