 Highlights of February 2012 
 
 
 Telecom 
 
  • China's cellular M2M connection revenue is expected to grow from $642 million in 2011 to $2.76 billion in 2016, according to ABI Research.
  • The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) announced Tuesday the main business revenue of the nation's telecommunication sector reached 988 billion yuan ($157 billion) in 2011, up 10 percent year-on-year.
  • The performance of the market is forecast to decelerate, with an anticipated CAGR of 11.3% for the five-year period 2010 – 2015, which is expected to drive the market to a value of $247.2 billion by the end of 2015.
 
 Automobile 
 
  • Deliveries of passenger automobiles, including multipurpose and sport-utility vehicles, dropped 24 percent from a year earlier to 1.16 million units last month, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers said yesterday in a statement.
  • With the vast consumer base having more purchasing power, and improved road infrastructure, China has become a renowned name in the global automobile industry.
 
 Energy 
 
  • China claims world's biggest shale gas reserves.
  • In the first three quarters of the year, China's energy intensity fell just 1.6%, and pollutant emissions were reduced by less than 1% in the first half of 2011.
  • China aims to curb its energy consumption for each unit of industrial output by 21 percent during the period of the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-15), the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said on Monday.
 
 Pharmaceutical 
 
  • China's pharmaceutical market is currently ninth largest worldwide and worth approximately $25 billion.
  • Domestic pharmaceutical companies in China intend to form an alliance to boost the development of new medicines and to strengthen intellectual property protections.

  • China to raise medical industry standards,according to the plan, the government will raise standards on 2,500 chemical drugs, 2,800 ready-made Chinese traditional drugs, 200 biological pharmaceutical products.

  • "China's imports of mechanical and electronic products will reach $4 trillion during the 12th Five-Year Plan period, implying a promising market scope.
  • China's software and IT services industry grew 32.4 percent in revenue in 2011.

  • China's $192b boost to agriculture production.

  • According to latest data issued by the World Luxury Association on Feb. 1, Chinese's expenditure on overseas luxurious products in the Spring Festival of 2012 had increased by about 30 percent compared to that in the Spring Festival of 2011.
